Call for sessions, Round tables and Workshops

The X JIA meeting will be celebrated on the first week of June 2017 (7th-10th) at the University of Burgos, Burgos, Spain.

GENERAL THEME

Archaeology field comprises a methodology that allows the current society to study and understand past communities. This approach must be conceived from multiple perspectives (paleontology, zoology, architecture, technology...) as each one of them provides us with new and complementary views that complete and deepen our knowledge on the path of human traces. Thus, it is fundamental to understand the clues left by human presence at any moment in time, through archeology.

The suggested theme focuses on the idea that humans change continually over time and in all their facets, which is observable thanks to the Archaeology multidisciplinary point of view. Thanks to the technological innovations of the past few decades, Archaeology has benefited from methodological improvements, allowing addressing unanswered questions and formulating new ones.

Thereby, the general theme for the JIA 2017 by the "Asociación de Historia y Arqueología de Burgos" is "The times change: from the stone to the keyboard", where we propose to focus on the technological, social, and biological evolution, since Prehistory to the digital era; on the moments of stress that affect past societies and generally trigger changes in the modus vivendi and lead to fundamental transformations.

FORMATS FOR PROPOSALS

  • Session: sessions focusing on a specific topic that allow wide and dynamic debates via the presentation of different communications will be admitted. Both oral and poster communications are welcome.

  • Round table: this format intends to promote critical debates on topics related with the theme for the 10th edition of JIA, or on other themes that contribute to the debate. A minimum of five specific questions must be included in the application.

  • Workshop: we consider this format appropriate for topics that require a laboratory approach, that is, the presentations and discussion of a work methodology. Those interested in organizing a workshop will be provided with the facilities available at the University of Burgos.
